What is “AMBIENTE LATINO”?

Each of our group meetings is an experience where Latino men explore different ways of looking at life, expanding concepts of a positive attitude, learning helpful material, socializing and having a lot of fun at the same time.  AMBIENTE LATINO is a community of Latin men who meet for all sorts of events, from the healing to the hilarious and the sacred to the silly, from personal growth workshops to pool parties, theater outings to heart circles and the innovative experience of puppy piles.

 

Vision Statement

AMBIENTE LATINO (AL) creates and fosters a safe and supportive community where we can take risks that not only educate, but also challenge, inspire and revitalize our emotional, spiritual, social and physical lives through local events, workshops, weekends and retreats.

 

We value the spirit of volunteerism, leadership and mentoring in all we do.  We value understanding, compassion, inclusion, consensus, trust, collaboration and transparency, and we strive to share these gifts with our community-at-large.

 

We are committed to offering the opportunity for all men to learn, grow, connect and support one another by: “Building Community One Man At A Time.”

 

Who attends?

We are a diverse group Latino men of varying ages and beliefs.  Attendees come from across the Salt Lake City area.  AL creates a space where Latino men, regardless of sexual orientation, age, religion or background, can find a different way to connect – more openly... more honestly... with less fear... and a lot more fun.  All Latino men that are 18 years old or older are welcome.

 

What takes place?

The primary activity of AL is to create meetings and events in a safe and supportive environment where all men can confront risk and experience the challenges necessary for genuine growth, transformation and empowerment as men.

 

The group offers a wide choice of topics, thought processes and activities (games, dances, variety shows, heart circles, yoga and much more).  The choice of activities and topics allows each man to create his own personal experience living happy and healthy.  We will try new things, make new friends and reconnect with old friends.

 

Our beliefs

We respect the beliefs of each person that joins our group and believe that the spiritual energy of each individual is one of the basic supports that anyone can find.  Consequently, we promote different spiritual activities as part of the healthy living of every group member.

 

The Weekly Meetings

These meetings are to plan and support upcoming Gathering Workshops.  In each meeting we will talk, discuss and learn about different topics that can be used in the different areas of our lives (mental, health, spiritual, finance, relationships, etc.)  These meetings will include a variety of activities that will help to achieve this objective.

 

Included in theses activities are some new and innovative techniques and meetings with unique structure and components that will allow participants to enjoy this experience and this group as a most fulfilling experience.

 

The Gatherings Workshops

In addition to weekly meetings, we are preparing 3 different Gatherings (Spring, Summer and Fall) which are extended weekend retreats where men can explore different workshops about topics related to life (health, nutrition, body, mind and spirit) but with more detail than the weekly meetings are able to cover.

 

All the AMBIENTE LATINO events are drug and alcohol free.  Also, we must emphasis that some classes and meetings can be sensual but not sexual in nature.

 

 

 

Ambiente Latino is a prevention program of the People With AIDS Coalition of Utah.
