The People With AIDS Coalition of Utah is dedicated to providing educational and support services that enhance the quality of life for all people impacted by HIV / AIDS.

PWACU was established in 1988, since then we have become an integral part of Utah’s HIV/AIDS community by providing several unique services throughout Utah.

Education

The annual Living With AIDS Conference is held in October (AIDS Awareness Month).  The Conference covers an array of subjects for a variety of persons; including providers, people living with HIV/AIDS, friends and family members.  The topics presented include relevant concerns ranging from new medical and holistic advances in HIV/AIDS treatment to spiritual and emotional issues.  In addition to its educational role, the Conference offers a supportive and open environment in which those whose lives are affected by the disease can interact with others who are facing similar issues.

We publish the
Positive Press, a community newsletter about HIV/AIDS.  The Positive Press contains a variety of articles that explore issues such as new medical treatments, client services and general information about the Utah HIV/AIDS community.  It also includes articles by people living with and affected by HIV/AIDS and news about upcoming community events.  The Positive Press is free of charge and is available by subscription or can be picked up at various locations throughout the Salt Lake Valley.

As part of PWACU’s educational efforts, we facilitate Seminars.  The Seminars offer people affected by HIV/AIDS a chance to learn about pertinent issues and talk to others impacted by the disease.

Our
Resource Library contains a selection of books, journals, audio and video tapes, and articles covering different aspects of HIV/AIDS.  Our library is open to anyone in the community and includes free Internet access.

Groups

We facilitate various social and support groups for people living with HIV/AIDS.  Please visit our web site www.PWACU.org or call us at 801-484-2205 for a complete listing.

Recreation

Our Recreation Program strives to offer people living with HIV/AIDS the opportunity to create social support networks in a positive and safe environment.  Our program provides access to cultural and community events that people affected by HIV/AIDS may not otherwise be able to attend.  We also sponsor several events such as barbeques, holiday parties and a river trip each year.  Membership in the program is confidential.

Thrift Room

Our thrift room is stocked with donations from the community and is available to our members during business hours.

Wellness

Our wellness program provides people living with HIV access to providers willing to volunteer their services in the areas of acupressure, chiropractic, massage therapy, meditation, reflexology, reiki, yoga and other services.
